Renee

One of my favorite drawings of 2024 so far. I think the key is keeping the head shape and facial features in porpotion. THe biggest challenge was the hair. In anime & manga, afro styles are not typically used.I would say that most hair drawn in manga and western comics is one giant irregular shape. Dreadlocks can be done this way as well but for Renee the author decided not to and gave her detailed hair. About a third way into drawing her hair, I stopped trying to draw it exactly like in the reference and just went my own way, keeping the head shape and general form.
