Do not know what broke my funk, but I finally got back around to diving into painting again. I start a few years ago on a painting project to paint the four warlords of dynasty from Ronin Warriors. All of them have their lines finished in ink pen.
The biggest challenge I set myself was to make it as color accurate to the show as possible. This meant that 90% of the time, I was mixing colors. I def got an education on how to make anime peach skin, but I solved that hurdle long term by investing in some peach toned paints(Anubis). Everything else was made through mixing.
Sekhmet was the eaisest in terms of color mixing while Dale was a week of trying to get his armor color just right. The best elements for me would be Anubis's hands, Cale's helmet, Dale's face mask, and Sekhmet's helmet.
While I could have left Anubis's blade alone being that it was white, I decided to paint it using various off whites to hopefully give it texture. The light marigold on his armor was a nightmare. I do not know how I managed to pull off Cale's dull brown armor color. Dale's eye sticks out to me in a good way.
For each, I started out with a pencil outline to make sure I could scale the painting to the entire base material/paper. For Anubis, I experimented with trying to get different shades of black by mixing in silvers & blues so that his black helmet does not disappear into the background.
Time to reinvest in a water pen.
